A Statement on Suffrage.
Suffrage was won on the backs of the burden down.
Suffrage was won by the shriveled hands of sharecroppers.
Suffrage was won after force feed women stood up against the status quo.
Suffrage was won when landmark legislation like the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments were leveraged by the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
For those reasons and many others, I vote!
I have voted in presidential, midterm, special, off year, primary, and general elections.
I vote when the rain is drizzling or pouring down. I vote when it is crisp cold or sweltering sunshine.
I vote during the silence of snowfall and on warm airy days. It is a right, an obligation, a repayment on a debt, a continuation of democracy, and an investment in future generations.
